FAQs about the SUNRIVER* Solar Water Heaters  

 

How do we go about choosing which SUNRIVER systems suits best?

Recommended sizing -

  • 24 tube unit – 2-4 person household
  • 36 tube unit – 4-6 person household
  • 48 tube unit - 6+ person household

 

How much can I save on my power bills?

The actual dollar savings will be determined upon many factors, such as size of your hot water cylinder, the time of day you use your hot water, efficiency aspect of the position of your solar collector etc. Given that the average power account is at least 50% from water heating & that the Sunriver system can potentially heat up to 75% of your hot water requirements the average payback is approx 5 years (even less if eligible for the EECA grant).*

  • Power prices have increased by 45% over the past 5 years and will continue to increase as New Zealand’s energy requirements increase.
  • Increased power outages & infrastructural failures are making solar a more economically viable & reliable alternative.

How does the SUNRIVER Solar Water Heater system work?

The SUNRIVER* Solar Water Heater systems use a more efficient & modern method of heating water than the older traditionally more expensive solar water tank systems of yesteryear. Using the energy provided by sunlight, not heat, the light is absorbed by liquid captured in an ‘evacuated glass tube.’ This reaction causes heat to rise to the top of the tube, which in turn super heats water, which is then transferred to your water cylinder. This makes the entire unit greatly lighter, much more efficient & hugely less expensive to buy & install than previous solar systems.

 

How do we go about getting a SUNRIVER system installed?

There are registered SUNRIVER authorized installers throughout New Zealand who are qualified to install your SUNRIVER system. Most of the registered installers can also handle the Council Consents process for you. Simply contact us & we can organise everything for you. Call toll free on 0800-806883 (from NZ landline).

 

Does my roof require any strengthening or bracing?

No, generally not, the SUNRIVER system is an incredibly light unit & does not involve any weighty tanks on your roof.

 

Am I eligible for Government subsidy or grants?

Yes, of the SUNRIVER range, all units qualify for EECA subsidy rebates of up to $1000. The SR24 & SR36 systems are eligible for $500 rebate, while the SR48 is eligible for a $1000 rebate on your costs.
